7 Quick Tips About Content Marketing

By Zachary Raineri

Content marketing includes everything from blog posts and podcasts to e-books and webinars.

It’s based on the idea that creating high quality content will drive people to your website who will read and engage with it.

This is a crucial aspect of inbound marketing as it fits perfectly with the focus of generating organic traffic.

Here are some quick tips to help you achieve your content marketing goals:

Be Concise

Being concise with your content means having a clear purpose throughout. You should plan your articles before you begin writing to organized and on track with what you want your readers to takeaway.

You can do this by creating an outline which includes the headers of the sections you wish to overview and any notes regarding what you want the section to cover.

This will help you stay focused during the creation process and ensure you’ve created a content path your audience will be able to easily follow along with.

Be Informative

Informative Note Taking

Being informative is also important when it comes to creating high quality content. The focus of your content should be to educate or give insight on a particular topic your audience cares about.

Blogging for example, shouldn’t be done solely to promote your business. It should instead be done with the mindset to inform you readers, gain a following, and establish your business (and yourself) as a thought leader in your industry.

By having this mindset when creating content, you will begin to prove your expertise and selling will begin to happen naturally.

Informative content helps you get targeted traffic you otherwise wouldn’t have gotten. Think of it this way.

People who haven’t heard of your business are not going to search for a blog post which talks about your business.

However, they are much more likely to search for information or tips on a topic that may be related to your industry.

Be Engaging

Your content should cause your readers to want to engage with it. Whether you're providing a solution to a common problem or proposing a question to your audience, you should always include an option for social sharing as well as a comment section.

Any reader who wants to share your content should be able to do so off the same page as the content.

Social Sharing Concept

Also, make sure to respond to any questions and or comments your readers ask as this will further build a rapport and increase engagement as well.

Be Consistent

Being consistent with your postings makes developing a reader base much more natural. Plan out your content and come up with a strategy.

Schedule days which you will regularly post on to not only ensure you are continuing to add new, valuable content, but so your readers know when to expect it.

For example, you could make a post once a week on a particular day or schedule it in advance so it always posts at the same time.

This will let your readers know when to expect new content and make it easier for them to stay up-to-date.

You should also give your readers the option to subscribe to your postings as this will not only make it more convenient for them, but increase your average traffic on new articles. This is especially effective once you have decided on a set schedule.

If you have a blog post which comes out every Monday at the same time your readers may soon begin to incorporate reading your post into their weekly routine.

Make Good Use of Spacing

Spacing can make or break your post when it comes to being visually appealing while maintaining the reader’s attention. Long blocky text is often times difficult to read and has no aesthetic value.

A general rule of thumb is to keep paragraphs no longer than four sentences. This will help with the flow of your post and ultimately make it easier for your audience to read.

Visitors will often skim through a post before deciding if they would like to read it. Large sums of text generally deter readers during this process.

With proper spacing and headers you will see more visitors actually reading your content leading to a much higher level of engagement, an increase in average time spent on page, and a better conversion rate.

Use Visuals Appropriately

In an article by Jeff Bullas, he shares the statistic that articles with a relevant image get 94% more views than those with lack thereof.

We live in a world where visuals are crucial as they help reinforce points and attract the eye. Using some sort of visual in your postings is a must.

Making use of pictures and infographics can be very beneficial both to your organic traffic goals and to your readings.

This is especially true in postings which include many statistics. Utilizing graphs and charts will give your audience another way to process your information as they make their way through your post.

Establish Credibility

Credibility is key. Be sure to cite any specific statistics or references to another article. A post that just blindly throws out statistics and numbers with seemingly no evidence of being true is one which loses all credibility.

Speaker Credible Leader

It’s important to show your audience that you’ve done your research and in turn the information you provide can be trusted.

Content marketing is simply something every company should be doing. Quality vs. quantity should be kept in mind.

Yes, having a lot of content is great, but it’s far more important to have high quality content that viewers will want to read.

Develop your strategy, find out what would work best for your audience, and follow these quick tips so you can be well on your way to having your own successful content marketing campaign.
